Team RoofKIT wins the SDE 21/22!
The winning teams of the Solar Decathlon Europe in Wuppertal are decided: First place goes to the team RoofKIT from Karlsruhe. Second place goes to Team VIRTUe from Eindhoven. Third place is shared by teams AuRA from Grenoble and SUM from Delft.
After a jury process spanning several days, the categories architecture and innovation were the deciding factors in the end. The RoofKIT team of the KIT Faculty of Architecture has won the German premiere of the world’s largest university-based Solar Decathlon competition in Wuppertal. The students of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), led by Prof. Dirk E. Hebel and Prof. Andreas Wagner, scored the most points in all disciplines of the solar decathlon – and thus presented the most convincing concept for the climate-friendly further construction of our cities.
16 university teams from ten countries competed in the solar decathlon in Wuppertal. The Solar Decathlon Europe was organized by the University of Wuppertal and sponsored by the German Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection (BMWK).
In his speech at the festive final ceremony on Friday, June 24, Dr. Patrick Graichen, State Secretary in the BMWK, congratulated the teams and emphasized that everyone had won through the Solar Decathlon in Wuppertal: “The winner is the climate. Through their innovative contributions, the teams have shown that climate protection can succeed if we face the challenges together. The practical implementation of the tasks set shows us innovative ways of shaping the city of tomorrow.”
